Piyse Nebim 15 Year War

Your grandfather, Ian Ming, was long seen as the instigator of the Piyse-Nebim War.

In 7016 your grandfather declares independence from Acasa and defects to Piyse. Your grandfather still remembers his ancestors as the rulers of an independent Len. They were a kingdom of their own right in the Alliance of Sica. Overtime and after massive amounts of war and slaughter Len had became depopulated. In the intervening years of war and the formation of the petty kingdoms and mediatisation Len became part of the Duchy of Acasa and the Kingdom of Nebim.

Nebim ran roughshod over the traditional feudal rights of your clan, among them is demanding the traditional rite of submission, of Nebim, a special bow where you prostrate, legs spread, hands grabbing your ankles, with your face up, eyes closed, mouth open and chin touching the ground. You lift your chin and touch the ground 3 times. You are only allowed to get up after the person taps you on the mouth.

It was protocol to perform this ridiculous submission rite in Nebim.

Secondly the Greater Acasan Agricultural Group had rights to vast swaths of Len land and owned thousands of peasants working them.

What set off the rebellion was the discovery of oil in Len. At the time there was no combustion engine, but oil was used as a fuel in magical wars and to amplify the strength of magic, very useful still. The GAAG starts prospecting for oil in Len. Ian Ming was very opposed to this. Though the land rights were signed before his time, he did not believe it covered oil as oil was not yet discovered when the rights were signed. However the Kingdom Nebim ruled in favor of GAAG.

At the same time Ian Ming struck up an amazing historical friendship with the King of Piyse. At the time he was the rector at the Nebim Institute of Magecraft, visiting at the University of Sasiwe in Piyse where the King's daughter was also attending. He was a visiting to set up a research collaboration. It just so happened that it was a research university studying magic for war. There was a magical explosion, enhanced by use of oil and chemicals. The blast killed almost everyone in the building, except for Ian and the princess, who was standing near him when he used a magical shield to save them from the collapsing building.

The King was very thankful and invited Ian home and gave him many rewards. Eventually they ended up friends. The King was very curious about Nebim's submission rite and was very understanding when Ian revealed that he was repulsed by it. After talking with him for about a year he convinced Ian that he was better off defecting and Piyse would protect him. He says Piyse will pay market price for Len's oil.

In 7016 your grandfather declares independence from Acasa and defects to Piyse, and nationalizes the GAAG assets in Len. The King tells Ian that if he can conquer Nebim he can have Acasa.

Ian first hires a ton of mercenaries to attack Acasa, hoping to deliver a knockout blow that will force them to strike a deal. The attack fails and Ian had to retreat back to Piyse, meeting the King. Though the King wanted to help Ian the court was very opposed to going to war with Nebim as the two nations had been at peace for a hundred years.

Ian eventually overrides the court and orders his whole army for a full assault on Nebim. There was a big battle (Battle of Keenona) where the two countries end up in a draw after massive losses on both sides. Then there was another battle which ends up in a pyrrhic victory. After this Acasa tries to defect to Piyse as they don't like Nebim too much either, and they can feel that Piyse will win.

Ian tried to get the King to reject the offer so he can conquer it and take Acasa for himself. The King initially rejected the offer, but there was massive discontent and eventually the King was forced to step down and was replaced by his son, who was much more of a peacenik and readily accepted. Now Ian is the "bad guy" in the eyes of both Piyse and Nebim. Eventually the Piyse army marched on Nebim and their King surrendered and was executed, but his family was allowed to join the Yan monks.

But now everyone hates Ian lol including the new King of Piyse. Oh yeah and the oil fuels, to pay for the war Ian mortgaged the oil to Piyse crown, who is not giving them back.

Ian died kinda depressed and angry at everyone, though he was minorly successful, he got Len out from under the yoke of Acasa and is now an independent Province instead of having a lord in the Duke of Acasa.

There are many rumors about Ian Ming, especially how he "controlled" the Piyse king. In some circles Ian Ming is seen as a Rasputin-like figure.

Duke Suweng was Ian Ming's archenemy. He had a crush on the King's daughter, who liked Ian Ming.
