• Either talking to Cinean where Cinean hypocritically tells her to not aspire to too much. Or perhaps something she learned from the Hila, or perhaps something she's telling someone based on things she learned from the Hila. Says something like we're all essential parts of society, and so long as we perform our role we will be rewarded in life. For example mitochondria take in low-entropy inputs from their host cell, such as glucose or fatty acids, and expel high-entropy outputs, including carbon dioxide and water. They serve essential purposes without ever thinking they should do more. Imagine if they all desire to go higher.

Pre-game History

• Her parents were successful warriors in your grandfather's army. Her mother was a solfrey and her father a commoner. Before they died they froze their fertilized eggs and entrusted them to a fertility clinic. When they died in the war they were unable to keep up payments to the fertility clinic until your grandfather awarded them survivor's benefits, thereby clearing their debts and allowing their contract with the clinic to proceed. The clinic implanted the eggs in a surrogate from the local community of Hila.
• So Zhenzhen herself was born of a surrogate.
• The one who took her in as a ward in was the old marshal, her parents commanding officer who felt responsible for their deaths. He used to tell her stories about her parents and how much her father did everything for her mother, it was a story of true love and the responsibility of the chosen commoners of a solfrey to protect them.
  • She later transferred these feelings to you.
  • Her father died to protect her mother.
  • Old marshal treated her like a servant, but wasn't cruel to her, would be kind if not for the fact that he exploited her child labor.
  • The Hila surrogate was initially okay with raising her in the Hila community as her own child, but thought it would be better to give Zhenzhen to the old marshal as to be closer to the solfrey.
• She was given to you as a servant by the old marshal, once he saw that you had taken a liking to her.
• She was your whipping girl, meaning she was whipped when you misbehaved. Whenever she was whipped you would cry and feel sorry for her, and she gained a lot of strength from your tears.
• When you came of age she was spayed, her ovaries removed.
  • This is done when your parents planned to use her as your whipping girl. They saw that you were growing up and would probably have sex with her at some point. This removes a lot of complications, and is traditionally done to commoners both male and female who are used as servants for children.
    • Sex with commoner servants are not looked down upon as they would be in our world for a number of reasons.
      • Producing loyalist children is encouraged and not seen as transgressional. In your case you were a bit too young.
      • STDs were much less of a problem with advanced medical technology due to magic.
      • Religious customs and mores are different, sex is not a sin
      • The power imbalance is not a problem, it's the whole point.
  • This has a lot of hormonal side effects. She meets with a mage from the hospital to mitigate the effects.
    • The doctor died at one point and she wasn't able to get treatment, gets depressed and sad and you step in to help her after diagnosing the problem.
    • This causes a lot of problems in her sex life with you. After you leave her to do your thing, business etc in the capital, Maisahara, she stops getting treatment.
    • In the present day you ask her about treatment she says it's okay she gets a lot less.
    • Her hormone issues causes her to be dry and not get wet, she tries to fix it by slobbering over your dick with saliva, but actually has a liking to taking you dry. She feels like it's a trial to become your Miya, proof of how much she's willing to suffer to fully deserve the position. She gets a lot of gratification if she can please you even in this state, and her willingness to do so despite having low libido makes her actually very satisfied.
• When you were younger you played "judge and prosecutor".
• Between when you first left and when you returned with a fiance in tow, ZhenZhen was sent away from the main manor and lived a fairly lonely life in Loprin Manor with just her, Roulan the Pet, and a female slave. So her life from when she was 25 til now when she is 32 is utterly boring and wasted.
  • She spent the time reading theology and honed her devotion and her faith for your return.
  • She ended up developing a good relationship with Roulan and trained her into being a great toy. She practiced extensively with Roulan routines to make them a great pair for you in bed. Roulan is able to get wet where ZhenZhen was not, and together they studied magecraft that would help Roulan control her wetness and get copiously more wet.
  • Roulan was kept busy by this goal and probably wouldn't been depressed without something like that to strive for.

Depression & Isolation

Goals and Unique Concepts

• Core appeal is that she's a sympathetically pathetic character who's really just a tragic figure
• She's noted for her sacrifice and devotion, and the strength thereof and how she reconfirms it constantly
• To be clear, she is devoted to you, the MC. Her obsession with you takes on a religious quality, which is of course stronger in a lot of ways than the crush, love, and submission some of the other characters feel, but is in a lot of ways formed and crystallized by your control and her dependence on you for all worth and emotional support. This religious quality could also be thought of as semi-delusional and less pure than some of the other characters.
• We're not giving her a diverse life filled with many elements and plots, no other ambitions and dreams
• Hopefully this stays a realistic and three-dimensional character despite the strong focus
• We have deliberately declined to expand her plot and focus in several directions, such as engaging her storyline more with the military, or early religious powers, or household drama. Indeed her story will be very focused on her devotion to you the MC so that you feel fully responsible for this person and her life.
  • This is in contrast to other characters such as Peizhi, Weilan, Yaling, etc who have a lot of other things going on, and Dou Rong who you deliberately constricted into being devoted to you. ZZ just starts out that way, and you've made it happen through your actions since childhood.
• To ensure her still being a realistic and three-dimensional character, we are challenged to make sure that every element is complex and realistic, to fully explore, and help the reader viscerally feel her depth:
  • Show how childhood as whipping girl shaped her understanding of love/attention
  • Explore her complex relationship with old marshal who both cared for and used her
  • Deepen her connection with Roulan beyond just training
  • Make her religious devotion feel more personal/specific
  • Give weight to her Miya obsession through deeper theological understanding
  • Make Her Reactions Complex
    • Not just jealous of Weilan but fascinated by her different approach to service
    • Mix of pride and shame in her role training Roulan
    • Complicated feelings about MC's necromancy affecting her religious beliefs
    • Genuine care for household while still being emotionally messy
  • Show Different Sides Through Current Events
    • During spy arc, reveal her observation skills developed from years of watching MC

  • So rather than give her hobbies or skills, we could expand her emotional landscape:

Identity

• She feels an intense sense of responsibility and familial relationship with you and sees you as her family. She wants to protect you.
  • Sometimes this is used to rationalize paranoia and dislike of other people in the household
• Unlike Cinean Sung who feels superior to Yaling, Zhenzhen feels inferior in education, worldiness, etc, and thinks Yaling's low opinion of her is deserved.
• She constantly compares herself to Yaling.
• Years ago when you were both children she saw your ask a lady friend if you could hold her hand. Whereas with her you just grab her without asking. At the time she thought that meant she "won" as she was closer to you, but over time she grew to understand that meant you just didn't respect her.

Caretaking Identity Crisis

• Built identity around protecting MC through taking punishment
• Now that role is obsolete but she doesn't know how to relate differently
• Other women can protect/help MC in more practical ways

  • Theologically, solfrey are angels who return to heaven when they die. Their return can be accompanied by 3 of their closest commoner friends or servants. The top 3 closest commoners to a solfrey is given the title of Miya.
  • Most people are interested in being Miya for its symbolic meaning (ie close relationship to you), and its status.
  • While people typically are not supposed to lose Miya status, in practice people being removed from being Miya and replaced happens quite often.
  • It's also something that is theologically only effective when you die, so there isn't supposed to be any huge rush to be appointed Miya, who knows what could happen between now and then.
  • However there is a lot of status that comes with being a Miya, so people are eager to become one anyway.
  • The relevant people in the story who could become Miya are Sunwei Mako - Secretary, Pinhan Zhilun - Bodyguard, Weilan Kung - Ardau, Zhenzhen, Jiayi, Nali Koyoo - Networker, Yau De - Printing Family, Jiaolong - Social Secretary. So there are more "girls" than there are slots, and Sunwei has basically one of the slots locked up as he's your prized secretary, he ghost wrote your books and does a lot for you, he's with you all the time, etc. Pinhan Zhilun is also quite likely to be a Miya as he's your body guard, and everyone knows that making your bodyguard a Miya is just good business. So in reality there's only 1 or 2 slots to fight over, and Zhenzhen really wants to become one, even more than the others.

Showing the Miya Obsession

We need to create some ideas for scenes that would let them broach the topic. Though we don't have a final Miya selection (Miya is something that is theologically relevant only on death, so it's a bit early for that and a bit of a faux pas to demand it early), we can have conversations about it, and finally, a Miya ceremony for her at the conclusion of her "good" routes.

Some natural opportunities to inject Miya discussions:

1. During her hospital visits: She could see other servants discussing their hopes of being chosen as Miya by their masters, leading to a conversation about it when you next meet.

2. After the spy incident with Winny: Her one genuine success in serving you could give her a moment of hope about being worthy, leading to a tentative conversation.

3. During scenes with Roulan/The Pet: While demonstrating their training, she could mention how even helping prepare others who might become your Miya is an honor.

4. When scheduling through Jiaolong: She could notice how much time you spend with Sunwei and others, leading to insecure thoughts about Miya status.

5. After any intimacy scenes: In vulnerable moments, she might whisper hopes about proving herself worthy.

6. During Hila community visits: Seeing mothers with children could trigger her thoughts about eternal connection through Miya status, since she can't provide children herself.

7. When helping with household tasks: Observing other servants' relationships with you could prompt her internal comparisons about Miya worthiness.

8. During religious observances: Her prayers could naturally turn to Miya hopes.

The key is keeping these mentions organic and scattered throughout, showing how it constantly occupies her thoughts without becoming repetitive.

Sub behavior would be societal, and exhibited privately. She is hoping you would meet her half way and find value in it, but don't expect it.

When she comes to you with self-sacrificing sexual behavior there's an air of tragic sadness. You don't really go along with it.

The "power fantasy" here, or the kink, if you want to use that word for it, is the neglect and denial of having a kinky relationship. She sees you engage in this type of play with others, but she is not even worthy of it.
