Backstories

My great grandmother had a sister who was raped and then forced to marry her rapist. When she became pregnant, her husband told her he would kill her if she didn’t get an abortion. She took rat poison to try to induce a miscarriage and ended up bleeding to death. She was 19.

My Grandmother drank a quart jar of quinine and turpintine in an effort to abort in 1940! She almost died, spent a week in hospital but did get to marry her one true love in 1941, and go on to have 4 amazing children. He didn't know about any of this until the 80s, 10 years after she died from brain cancer. She was afraid his parents wouldn't let him marry her if she was pregnant.

Yeah, unfortunately victims were too afraid to fight their aggressor. I have an older friend who was in the same situation and ended up marrying the rapist and having kids with him. He used to beat her, psychologically abuse her, rape her, punish her by asking her to do certain "physical exercises". That man always creeped me out ( later, after she told me about her painful experience, I saw many things in a different light, like him saying something like I look good now when I turned into an adult woman). Not to mention that he lived abroad for a while, had a mistress and pretended he didn't have any family back home ( found this thru a common friend, dunno if his wife ever found about the whole circus). They're still together, but you can see the pain in her eyes, it makes me really sad to think how many women went through similar experiences
