The purpose of this storyline is to explain why you have a "cheating allowed" relationship with your wife. The problem with the post-marriage harem is that some players will feel bad about cheating on the wife if not explicitly set up that it is allowed.
In your relationship with your wife, your wife had to fight for you, get you away from the other women, as well as fight with her family to be allowed to marry you. She is top tier wifey material.
You are a young lord who was obsessed with pursuing Mystimetry. You are convinced it is the key to unlocking great power. It's not a nerdy thing, rather state out loud that you think it is very important. Your father thinks it is a useless dream. Only your mother supports you in your interests. He prefers you to be studying politics, diplomacy, and warcraft, as befitting a lord. This is the main source of your conflict with your father.
After studying under the Celestial Master and publishing a renown book, you achieved the status of Esteemed Scholar. You then tried to strike out on your own and start your own company doing Mystimetry. The company name is "Mystimark Nexus" The idea is that you would study and invent Mystimetry IP which you would license out to other companies. To do this you borrowed money from your slaver friend, who signed a contract with you to improve slaving methodology. Supposedly by using mystimetry tracking you can reduce slave suffering. You deliver him one new tech but found it hard to modify the tech for other usecases, since you signed an agreement to exclusively sell the tech to one company only.
You end up selling 40% of the company to the friend and leaving the company, you're still the Chairman and on the Board but you won't be CEO anymore.
The decision to sell was caused by Faelan showing up. She was excited about your company and wants you to join hers. She is the COO of Charmlight Corporation, which is Mystimetry related. She invites you to join multiple times. The first meeting she shows up herself, the second meeting she shows up the CEO, and the third meeting she comes with the Sage Sin Co Bin who is renowned. You are convinced to join Charmlight by him. Your priority here is not necessarily to make money but to do research into magecraft. The much bigger company can provide you with the resources and the freedom necessary to do fundamental research without a monetization goal over your head.
So you join; get along super well with Faelan, becoming good friends. About 3 months after you join she convinces Yaling to join. Yaling is a socialite, well known in the capital and hosted great parties that were always attended by the young nobility. Yaling hated/pretended to hate you. She picked up that Faelan liked you and acted like she had no interest in you. It was easy for her to fake this as her family was your rival.
Eventually Faelan comes to you with an admission after about 5 months, she is a virgin. She always thought you would have been the ideal man to take her v card but didn't feel comfortable enough with you or with herself. But now that she got to know you on a very close level as an adult she thinks you are the one. You agree and tell her that you like her too and begin a casual sexual relationship with her.
Faelan is sweet, hyper, and funny. She is fiercely protective of Yaling. There was this one incident where Yaling was in trouble and she got you to save her.
After she confides in Yaling
After this you and Yaling become close friends and she eventually falls in love with you. You get intimate much to the chagrin of Faelan, but she eventually forgives Yaling and agrees to be in an unresolved love triangle. Yaling had moments where she was bitchy to Faelan, saying things like, "He can barely breathe with clingy women around him," referring to Faelan.
At the conclusion of the arc Yaling cries and begs Faelan for forgiveness, as she wins the competition to be your wife and she is engaged to you.
Overview: You had known your wife for a long time of course, though not very close. She was 2 years younger than you.
Eventually, this part of your life wraps up when your father decides to turn his lordship over Len to you, having you succeed him.
He turns over the family heirloom to you, records describing a mystical pathway into the snowy mountains. Since you're an expert researcher
Characters:
Faelan - Long time but not close friend that you've known. Close friends with your wife Yaling Chun.
Your wife - Yaling Chun - Signed on as an influencer / PR model, a marketing tool. Uses her position as socialite to get investments and open doors for the company.
Mariwen - Stalker from another company.
Male Colleague - Sin Co Bin - Granted the title of Sage. It's important to have some guys, especially guys that you look up to, to not make the whole thing feel like such a gary stu.
Princess Irfen (grandaughter of king) and Princess Karbin (Nebim hostage)
Zhuha - older Doyenne of High Society, supported your relationship with Shuqin Tao. She has lineage though not a high title.
Zhuha's daughter, your lover, was Yaling's biggest rival.
Zhuha's son, married Princess Irfen, was your friend and tried to get you to marry his sister, sabotaged your relationship with Shuqin. Felt betrayed when you picked Yaling.

When you first declare Yaling your exclusive girlfriend, angry lovers actually show up to confront you/her. "I thought you weren't ready for an exclusive relationship". "You're so young why are you being tied down so early."
Aside from Faelon Song, Yaling also prevailed over Shuqin Tao and 6 other women that she knew of.
