The Chuns

• They have more of an us versus them mentality towards commoners, slightly more so than the MC's family.
  • They put on bigger celebrations of holidays that mark the solfrey-commoner divide.
    • They more keenly feel their solfrey identity (as opposed to just being a human or a citizen), and have more of their ego wrapped up in it than the Mings.
  • They're just more into celebrating holidays, rituals, etc than the Mings in general who has a more rationalist and boring pragmatic view.
    • The more frequent and bigger emphasis on the holidays that really shows the stratification in society, the difference between commoners and solfrey, has an impact on their attitude. None of the Chuns has a close relationship with a commoner like Zhenzhen for example.
    • This propensity to ritual and subtly influences Yaling as well, who has more of a tendency to look at rituals as comforting and has more of an expectation of symbolic action.
• They're slave owning, and it's common to have a variety of slaves, sex slaves, house slaves, field slaves, etc that the MC's family don't have.
• Yaling has never ever been to the part of the palace that's known as the Commoner's quarters. Whereas MC frequently goes into the places where commoners live Yaling just never does, as it represents a different world she wants no part of.
