Narrative Purposes

  • Build out the industrialization level of the world, some world-building regarding guilds.
  • Reward player with appreciation from the NPC for their success so far.
  • Concern exists that the stuff about alchemy, regulatory capture, etc is not fun. It's interesting content but what if boring? Is there something we can do to spice it up a bit.

Requirement

Total GDP to be greater than 100k. Some industrial buildings requirements.

Plot outline

  1. Meeting with a celebration of industrial families in your city. They toast your great governorship and give you gifts.
You are introduced to the Printing family (add to party), the glasswork family, the alchemy / healthcare family, and also the Caplet Corp (construction), and an association of rural landowning solfrey minor nobles. All 3 families are added to the Party list. Caplet Corp is not.
Though this questline starts with a MISC Event, it will continue with individual quests with the families.

Printer's Guild

Requirement to start Printer's Guild: Must have conquered at least 1 other county.

You get a report of organized crime, attacks, and sabotage on a new printing startup from the other county. They want to be part of the large, successful industry in your county. Guilds were abolished some 50 years earlier by the old king and ruled illegal. The printing family was the old head of the printers guild, still illegally met with the other old guild members to try to exclude outsiders and set prices. This was unbeknownst to you but you discover and learn this over the quest. Once you determine (perhaps a mystery could be done here depending on how ambitious the quest writer is) that the sabotage was performed by the printing guild's family you can are presented with some choices.

  1. Punish the printer's guild. XXX scene along with some traumatic punishments is possible here. You also learn that the daughter has a new idea for a spin-off business involving printing not just books but billboards as the start of an advertising industry.
This decreases corruption and increases GDP.
  2. Allow the printer's guild to bribe you. (happy xxx scene here) They give you a smaller amount of money personally every stage. Go to the new printer and punish them so that they accept joining the guild.
This increases corruption and gets you cash.

Alchemy healthcare family

Requirement: Must own a kingdom.

One family handled healthcare, ran hospitals in Acasa and bought medicine from the alchemy family. Now the alchemy family wants to sell their medicine directly to consumers cutting out the healthcare family.

  1. The healthcare family approaches you, when you start their quest through the party interaction screen, to start an Department of Alchemy (DoA, equivalent to the US FDA) because they see an increase of people taking bad medicine. This unlocks the Department of Alchemy building which increases bureaucracy costs.
  2. You celebrate the establishment of the Department of Alchemy, and get +wealthGrowth. You pointedly appoint a doctor from the healthcare family as the head of the Department of Alchemy.
  3. You receive the alchemy family who complains that the real reason why the hospital family wanted the DoA is to force the alchemy family to sell the medicine only through them instead of directly to consumers. They say that the DoA is regulatory capture and that you should appoint alchemists to inspect alchemy.
  4. You meet with the hospital family who tries to tell you that the alchemists are lying. Try to think of a way to add in a xxx opportunity. Luckily you are the necromancer and can just replace the head of the DoA with a hero Alchemist.
This reduces corruption but increases bureaucracy.
