Your Past with Anastasia and Yao Hong

When you were teens, you went over to Yao Hong - The Cruel Slaver Friend's castle where he had a dozens of slaves attending to him. Out of all those slaves, who were generally treated like trash, they were subjected to daily regimented rules and training, he treated one especially well, Anastasia Coldren - The False Solfrey, like a prized concubine or a girlfriend. When you first meet her, you see her being competent and happy. She had staff listening to her and is diligently managing slaver logistics and learning to be a good slave trainer. As a slave trainer she's dressed modestly in business outfits, not like a latex dominatrix just to be clear.

He says that he lied to her and told her that she was actually a Solfrey, a lie that she eventually believed. He helped convince her by hiring a guy to dress up as a Yan cleric, who uses magecraft to tell the difference between a commoner and a solfrey, to tell her the fake news. He helped nurture her confidence and develop an ego.

He tells you that this was a project that he was working on for 7 years, to give his friend the experience of raping someone who believed that she was a Solfrey, a normally illegal thing that becomes legal. You believe him, partly because of your own history with him. You thought him weird and awkward when he was younger, though he developed into a more polished adult. You helped him a lot socially, so it was easy for you with your overdeveloped ego to believe that he felt extremely grateful to you for the attention you showed him and wanted to gift you this experience.

Yao Hong's Secret Real Motivation

While the above is not wholly a lie, it didn't start out that way.

He at first treated Anastasia especially nicely because she was cute and he wanted a pet, and she was the one who wormed her way into his heart. He was so infatuated with her and wanted to simp so badly that he told her everything she wanted to hear, including that she was secretly a solfrey and it was a case of mistaken identity.

But she turned into the perfect daughter for his parents and the perfect student for his tutors, whereas he was a lazy layabout who would drink and play all the time. He would be much more obsessed with hunting and spending all day in VR whereas she diligently took after the family practice of slave training. They would constantly compare her to him and she would always be the one who was the most perfect. He actually hated slave training and hated that his pet girl had the favor of his parents and showed him up. He grew tired of her and to resent her. However, outwardly he didn't display any jealousy or treat her too poorly, they were friendly sex friends. Inside though he developed a sadistic attitude towards her.

So when you arrived and show interest in her and how hot she was, he decided to use this opportunity to have you be the one responsible for raping her and giving him an excuse in front of his parents to get rid of her, someone who's actually a commoner slave. He wanted you to hurt her, so that he could have a moment of sadistic pleasure through her emotional torment without him seeming evil in front of his parents.

You are not aware of any of this until the end of the storyline.

Meeting Years Later.

Years later, you are given the chance in another flashback to that time to you can choose to either participate in his scheme of raping her or not.

Choice in the flashback:

1. You can choose to tell him that's absurdly cruel and to ditch whichever other friends that made him think that was a good idea. Through that conversation he becomes closer to you and thanks you for giving him guidance.

You are not there when Anastasia's world is turned upside down again and she is told that her being Solfrey was a joke and just returns to being a commoner slave. She's initially just removed from her jobs as a slave trainer and was treated mildly by Yao Hong as he tried to retrain her into being a pet, teaching her to instinctively crawl in his presence and so on.

Genibel witnessed the humiliation of the girl and her descent into being a slave. It traumatized her to suddenly have to treat her differently, a girl who she was introduced to as a solfrey and treated as a friend.

Eventually he got tired of her and sent her away. As a slave she still used the slave trainer skills she learned while studying with Yao Hong, teaching other slaves, but the light has gone out from her eyes and Yao Hong no longer saw her.

2. Alternatively, you can choose to go with it. In that timeline you take her forcefully, but her resistance is mild. Though she's a pretend solfrey Yao Hong didn't quite manage to instill her with the full degree of a freewoman's pride, she just played the part. Rather, from her perspective, she was kind of excited to have seduced you, a cool guy losing his mind and can't withhold his desire for her.

She cries and begs you to slow down, but you shush her, saying "you're okay, you're okay".

She confided in Genibel what had happened, but talked about you with praise, complimenting how you rocked her world and how excited she was that you were excited with her and couldn't wait to tear her clothes off. As she was sheltered and had the role of a slave trainer while with Yao Hong, she didn't get to much interact with other aggressive men and found her experience with you incredibly dreamy. Of course this gave Genibel a certain impression of you.

When Yao Hong questioned her about this he was amazed see that she withheld the information from him to protect you, even though he set up the whole thing. He called her a slut and told her the truth, and returned her to being a commoner slave. As a slave she still used the slave trainer skills she learned while studying with Yao Hong, teaching other slaves, but the light has gone out from her eyes and Yao Hong no longer saw her.

Years later at the conclusion of the present story you can find references to her in various dealings with Yao Hong's slaving company. She pines for you but you do not have time for her and don't interact with her.

Your Present with Popi and Yao Hong

In current time you meet Yao Hong to try to get his support and do business together. You see another girl named Popi. He tells you that she is actually a slave and not a solfrey, just as was the case of Anastasia whom you instantly relate her to. You think he's just setting up another person for immense cruelty.

You talk to her personally, and she wins you over with her charisma. You're in the same room where you recall your experiences with Anastasia, and those memories haunt you. You decide that you can save her from that fate.

You can either save her or not save her. If you choose to save her, you have to send a hero to "steal item" and steal her through the non-cutscene game mechanics.

If you steal her to save her:

She joins your party as a kept slave. You tell her about the immense cruelty that Yao Hong tried to enact on her. She tries to run away, but you cannot just let it be revealed that you were responsible for her kidnapping. You're forced to take her to the prison of souls to convert her to be a loyal slave through necromancy.

You meet with Yao Hong who is distraught over the loss of Popi to thieves, but he does not know who to blame.

Talking to her after the brainwashing she tells you that she already knew about her predecessor Anastasia.

This is a bad ending for her, as you keep her as a slave member of your staff. Though you think it saves her from Yao Hong's cruelty, it doesn't actually turn out that way.

If you do nothing:

The next time you talk to Yao Hong again he tells you that he's really in love with her and making her his official Ji.

You're surprised and asked him why it's different with Popi vs Anastasia. He admits to you with Anastasia it wasn't supposed to end like that.

He tells you the real story behind Anastasia at this point.

But Popi is completely different, a real woman who's cute, happy, kind and pleasing all the time. A real pet who he's going to make into a Ji. You encourage him that a relationship built on lies cannot stand, and tell him to tell her the truth about her station. He does and eventually makes Popi into a real Ji and Popi is ecstatic. Popi had in fact heard of the case of Anastasia from Genibel and never believed that she was a solfrey, she only pretended to. She also kept focus on pleasing Yao Hong, which turned out well for her.

The irony of this storyline is trying to "do something" to save Popi results in a far worse outcome for her due to your ignorance of Yao Hong's real motivations, but this tragedy can only be understood on multiple playthroughs.
