Appearance
Jingyao Chun Wife's Brother
Jingyao Chun of Acasa is the oldest brother of Yaling Chun and the first of 3 siblings.
As the only son and heir to Duke Meng Chun, he is cracking a bit under the pressure, and has bouts of rebellion and acting out, leading his younger sister (Anyi Chun the middle child and oldest daughter) to take up the mantle of being the responsible one in the family.
He was a very good elder brother to Yaling, doting on her at an appropriate level, giving her kindness, support, advice, and then encouraging her to find her own way.
Relationships
His Wife - Yun Qionghua
An Older Sibling Who Encouraged Her Individuality
Core Idea: Instead of overshadowing, an older sibling actually rooted for Yaling—coaching her on confidence and “finding her niche.” This sibling is the one who taught her to be flamboyant and unstoppable.
Three Present Manifestations:
Fond Quips About Her Sibling’s Advice: “My brother always told me: if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, do it with style.” She channels that whenever she’s cornered. High Tolerance for Rivalry: She sees competition as good fun, since she and her sibling always teased each other but still had each other’s backs. So she’s rarely threatened by mild challenges. Occasional Letters or Scenes with the Sibling: They might exchange witty notes or meet at court, showing genuine warmth that underscores Yaling’s positive upbringing.
He seems kinda wise and really loves his family. Interested in philosophy and has discussed philosophy with Yaling, sparking her interest in it.
There are 2 military scenarios where you the MC interact with Yaling's family the Chuns. They're potential rebellion after becoming king, and as refugees from the Undead invasion. These scenarios are influenced by prior choices in the Dou Rong investigation (affecting Yun/Jingyao's relationship) and Piyse Politics (affecting MC/Chun alliance).
Storyline
Dou Rong
Was blamed for Dou Rong's disappearance by the investigator. (This outcome affects Yun Qionghua's relationship with Jingyao).
Piyse Politics
Talked to you during the Piyse Politics arc where they tried to make sure you didn't support the reformers. Presented to you a moral Weltanschauung that praised Fengjian society as ideal in the manner of confucian scholars. (This outcome affects whether the Chuns are allies or enemies later).
He feared the inhumane legalistic, bureaucratic model that rewarded examination results without humanity. He's seen it happen in other empires, where rule by love and mutual support turn into rule by punishment and fear. It is a stripping away of everything that makes us human.
[Even though he doesn't say this explicitly, it's an argument for decentralized power, which is a check on imperial power, a constitutionalized concept. The idea is to emulate confucian scholars and their idealization of the morality of fengjian society, that people had a right to rule because they were moral and observed the rituals, not because they were the most ruthless or best exam takers].
The King is old and confused, just being fooled by the ministers. If he thinks he can control the bureaucracy... even if he can for now, the system created will last beyond him, and it'll grow until it consumes everything, crushes us all under an inhumane edifice, grinds everything to dust, even him. The aristocracy has to stand united for all that is righteous in the world.
We have evolved beyond the empire, back in the days of the empire, the world was cruel and dark.
In that world, mercy is inefficiency, and compassion is corruption. The official who pardons a starving thief endangers the logic of deterrence. The merchant who forgives a debt distorts the market. There are penalties for kindness. There are rewards for compliance.
“No one is above the law,” they say — but they never mention that the law sits far, far below the soul.
There is no rebellion. Only audits. There are no executions. Only removals.
To be removed is not to die. It is to be erased.
Your name vanishes from records. Your family becomes suspect. No one speaks of you — not out of fear, but out of protocol.
In school, children are taught not virtue, but compliance strategy.
Whereas in the fengjian society, ruling comes out of love, out of kinship in the aristocracy, that is far superior.
[Of course he's right, the idea is to really sell it.]
NTR Scenarios (Refugee/Imprisonment Context)
During the course of the story (e.g., Undead Invasion), the Chuns become refugees seeking shelter in Len under your protection. Their status and the subsequent NTR scenario are heavily influenced by your prior relationship with them (determined by the Piyse Politics choice) and the state of Yun Qionghua's marriage to Jingyao (determined by the Dou Rong investigation outcome).
If Allied with Chuns in Piyse Politics (Remain Refugees): You have peaceful interactions with the refugee Chuns. The opportunity for NTR arises during this period of vulnerability and displacement.
- Variation 2 (Starting with Bad Yun/Jingyao Relationship): Yun begins fearful/distrustful of Jingyao due to the prior investigation.
If Opposed Chuns in Piyse Politics (Refugees -> Prisoners): The Chuns, already political opponents, attempt to plot against you while living as refugees under your protection. This plot is discovered (doesn't come to much), leading to their imprisonment. Yaling pleas for mercy but also, in a display of dominance and loyalty to MC, suggests demonstrating their powerlessness. She takes you before her imprisoned family, perhaps verbally abuses them, and then proceeds to have passionate sex with you right in front of them as the ultimate humiliation.
Variation 3 (Starting with Good Yun/Jingyao Relationship): Yun begins loyal/trusting. Witnessing the Chuns' imprisonment and then Yaling's shocking act of public intimacy with MC in front of them is profoundly terrifying and violating for Yun. She is a horrified, powerless observer, her worldview shattered by the brutality and the perversion of familial bonds. Any potential NTR involving Yun would likely occur later, stemming from extreme coercion or trauma bonding developed during imprisonment, separate from the initial humiliation act.
Variation 4 (Starting with Bad Yun/Jingyao Relationship): Yun begins fearful/distrustful of Jingyao. The imprisonment confirms her fears. Driven by fear for her own survival and resentment, she might react to Yaling's humiliation act in a more complex way. Instead of just being horrified, she might see an opportunity amidst the chaos. Perhaps she tries to verbally attack Yaling during the act (adding to the drama), or subtly tries to signal her own availability or usefulness to MC, attempting to leverage the situation for self-preservation or even revenge against the family she now fears/resents. Her actions make the scene messier and more dramatic, potentially setting up a later NTR based on this dynamic.
(Common Elements for Imprisonment Variations 3 & 4): Regardless of Yun's starting relationship or motivation for compliance in the imprisonment context, Yaling hopes that inflicting emotional punishment will satisfy MC and spare her family from execution.
You have two choices regarding the imprisoned Chuns: house arrest (with potential future release) or execution. The latter severely damages your relationship with Yaling.
