Appearance
Overview
Core Character & Purpose
- Commoner Love Interest who becomes your one and only Ji. MC never thinks of taking another Ji during the story, there are no others.
- Relatively rational and smart, has an optimistic outlook on life, possibly too much
- Channels her emotional energies into you, studying you, instead of letting her emotions seep elsewhere.
- She's not reserved in the sense of trying to seduce you and giving you everything you want, but she is reserved in terms of taking risks that might make you displeased or acting bratty (she doesn't do this).
- Besides being a love interest, she's here to give the first hint as to the division.
- She's also "the regular commoner love interest" as all the other LIs are either commoner mage heroes who are too action-hero to be a regular person, have been with you for a long time like Zhenzhen and Roulan, or are solfrey.
- She shows how solfrey system and successful cultural conditioning looks to commoners
- So she ask questions about the world that others won't because they already know it.
- Shows how cultural conditioning creates genuine devotion
- Demonstrates "proper" commoner behavior (not an intentional theme, but might have this outcome)
Contrast With Other Characters:
- Unlike Dou Rong: willing submission from start
- Unlike Cinean: no social climbing ambition
- Unlike Zhenzhen: balanced acceptance of status
- Unlike Shuqin: no manipulation or schemes
- Unlike Dou Rong, Cinean, Yaling, Peizhi: No betrayal of past, her family, friends, etc, preserves good relationships to the end. Suitably protects them by maintaining proper distance.
Author's Notes & Meta Commentary
Key Narrative Decisions:
- Smooth submission chosen deliberately to contrast with Dou Rong's resistance
- Early acceptance allows focus on deeper emotional elements
- Comedy elements (Ji-seeking project) balance darker themes
- Professional competence adds value without threatening appeal
- Friend group dynamics show cost without melodrama
- Cultural context makes submission believable without breaking character
Maintaining Appeal Guidelines:
- Keep focus on MC's special treatment of her
- Show gratitude rather than entitlement
- Use anxiety to create sympathy not irritation
- Professional success should enhance submission not challenge it

- Never let ambition override devotion
Potential Pitfalls to Avoid:
- Don't let professional success make her seem uppity
- Avoid making friend group drama feel like betrayal
- We're avoiding making her care about her fiance (to avoid him being competition), but he's not unwanted, the Red String actually means this was her fated intended until we derailed it. So basically we're avoiding addressing him to any large extent and hope the reader just forgets about him.
- Weilan successfully adapts to her new position but there's no huge transformation
- Professional success enhances but never overshadows devotion nor less submissive
- Keep schemes endearing not calculating
- Anxiety plays as endearing not pathetic or annoying

Emotional Arc
Unlike other characters who focus on status competition or ideology, Weilan's strength comes from her practical focus on creating value. Where Zhenzhen wallows in jealousy or Cinean struggles with ideology, Weilan consistently looks for ways to make herself genuinely useful to you. The sex coordinator storyline exemplifies this - rather than competing with others, she seeks professional help to improve herself. When Yaling takes that away, Weilan pivots to other ways to prove her worth rather than becoming bitter. This resourcefulness within the constraints of her commoner status makes her uniquely appealing - she's not trying to rise above her station, but to excel within it.
Romance
- keeping her "normal" while still having epic dramatic weight through the love story.
- Come to see that the MC increasingly is in love with her (if on love route). It's scary but intoxicating.
- Stays sweet/proper "normal girl"
- Her victory comes through inspiring devotion rather than her own ambitions
- making her Miya
- possibly marrying her
- making her the first commoner to birth a Solfrey heir via the necromantic magic of MC, giving her this privilege through his love
- Have huge dramatic moments without compromising her character's core appeal of being the relatable, sweet commoner who knows her place. The epic elements come from MC's actions and feelings for her, while she remains consistently herself.
Ji Identity
Let's examine what it means to be a Ji and what it means to her.
Primarily, a Ji is a sex toy/slave who's not given childbearing rights as a concubine. She's allowed concubine-level luxury by tradition, but is lower than a concubine because she can't bear solfrey children, isn't allowed to leave, isn't given any rights. However, she is still treated respectfully by servants and is not a slave and is seen as a favored pet of the master.
As such, a Ji's whole world revolves around her master and her ability to amuse and excite him through conversation and sex. This is common knowledge in this world and many books and other media regularly depict this. Commoners are propagandized into thinking that Ji can find happiness in this system through dedication to her master and serving him with her whole heart, under true obedience (obviously the propaganda is not idiotic and also depicts negative outcomes due to temperamental or disobedient ji, bad masters, and jealousies, but it shows that the system CAN work, which is already pretty gnarly message morally). It is seen as an upgrade to the Hila, who are also obsessed with solfrey partners but isn't given the same status and luxury.
Weilan is well aware of this coming in and accepts it, however she needs to learn the actual reality through experience.
There's a few differences in actuality to the media depiction.
1. Being Exciting and Sexy
It's incredibly difficult to keep exciting and amusing your master when he is not around. While it may be fine for some to just wait for him to call you, that'll quickly lead to affection atrophying or him losing interest in you, in favor of others. As such, you'll need something else to offer.
She learns this first hand, and fixes it by doing her finance job and later on, by attempting to do Jiaolong's job with the Ji-seeking project.
2. Real Submission
Summary here, for full Expanded details.
Weilan's journey toward understanding true submission is a progression through experience, intellect, and introspection. Initially, her focus on achieving success for her master brought pride in her competence. However, she eventually realized that this pride pulled her away from perfect submission. Instead, true submission lay in complete alignment with her master’s will, a state she rationalized through her professional insights.
Stages of Progression
- Honeymoon Phase: Obedience brought her pure joy, as every command aligned with her desires. This phase established the template for the perfect connection she would later seek to recreate.
- Rules and Structure: In seeking rules to maintain order, Weilan found comfort but also freedom, which paradoxically eroded her sense of complete ownership. The structure clarified her role but did not fulfill her emotional need for submission.
- Professional Pride: Her success in advancing the firm’s goals began to fuel her pride. Though her actions glorified her master, her satisfaction came from achievement rather than pure service, creating unintended consequences.
The Turning Point
The assassination attempt forced Weilan to confront the misalignment caused by her independent optimization of the firm. She realized that by pursuing success without direct alignment to her master’s desires, she had inadvertently prioritized her own validation. This insight paralleled organizational failures she understood: when parts of a system optimize for themselves rather than the whole, the system collapses.
Rationalization Through Business Logic
Using her professional expertise, Weilan reframed submission as achieving perfect organizational alignment. This rationalization harmonized her intellect and emotional desire for submission:
- Alignment, Not Achievement: Success must serve her master’s overarching goals, not her personal pride.
- Joy in Obedience: Fulfillment lies in acting as an extension of her master’s will.
- Framework for Submission: Her professional logic provided a structure to fully embrace submission, allowing her to perceive it as the obvious and ideal path.
The Culmination
Having tried and found limits in rules, achievement, and other solutions, Weilan finally arrived at the realization that submission is not about external validation but complete attunement. She recognized that partial measures created distance and unintended consequences. Her lived experiences led her to understand that true submission requires surrender not just in action but in essence.
Approaching her master, she asks for stricter control, not as punishment but as the means to embody perfect alignment. This synthesis of her intellect and devotion transforms her submission into a testament to her loyalty and love.
"Let me be yours completely, without pride or hesitation, so I can fulfill my purpose as your Ji."

Post-Ji Transformation
- When Weilan returns to finance work the other commoners are gobsmacked by her changes, instead of just elegant professionalism they see overt sensual beauty, an acknowledgment of her status as an untouchable sex object. Full confidence and no more need to hide her sexuality as she's now spoken for and safe and owned.
- Some friends drift away, unable to handle change
- Others draw closer, fascinated by transformation
- Starts seeing their "independence" as cope
- Still cares for friends but views them differently
- Growing isolation as she embraces new role
Professional Identity Crisis
- Returns to finance work transformed
- Struggle to maintain professional identity while embracing Ji status
- Her development of coping mechanisms for maintaining both roles
- Other commoners unsettled by her new demeanor, confidence in being "owned", new perspective of her career as being an agent for MC, no more worries about the career itself besides doing well for MC.
- Some solfrey see through her attempts to credit MC
- Others believe credit transfer creating complicated dynamics
- Growing financial success brings unwanted attention
- Must navigate other solfrey's interest without betraying MC
- Professional achievement becoming double-edged sword, bringing too much attention to herself is unseemly as a servant to MC.
- Tries harder to defer credit as stakes rise, in elaborate performances to make sure MC is given credit for everything
- Feels initially proud of how much she's contributing to your fame
- Culminates in assassination attempt
- Deep guilt over bringing danger to MC

Power & Agency Paradox
- Gains more actual power through finance success
- But must constantly perform powerlessness
- The more capable she becomes, the more she must demonstrate submission
- Caught between being useful and being properly submissive
- Success makes her more valuable but makes her feel less owned and safe
Kink - KQV1I1E2
Weilan's E2 because the MC isn't really kinky towards her, she brings the kink like the tracking ward, the anal etc, he's just responding to her needs, she's unintentionally domming from the bottom and he's being a service top, but he plays her perfectly and acts like he's delighted with her all the time (as she deserves!).
Her Submission
- Her desire for submission and submissive nature should be explained
- This explanation is not perfect and in fact may hurt the purity of the story and Weilan's attractiveness, so it would be left up as very subtle subtext for the discerning reader.
- Her drive to increase her submission and display of submission comes from a need to feel like it's her choice, she's the submissive one, it's not forced upon her. If she drives herself deeper into submission then she's the one who did it. By making her submission more complete and official, she can pretend it's a choice rather than something that was done to her.
- she's terrified of anything that might make her submission look forced rather than chosen. Her resistance isn't about maintaining dignity but about protecting the fiction that she has any dignity to maintain.
- Her active pursuit of greater submission - the tracking ward, the rules system, all her initiatives to be "perfectly owned" - becomes her way of maintaining the illusion of agency. By constantly choosing to submit more deeply, she can frame her complete lack of power as her own decision. The more ways she finds to give up control, the more she can tell herself "I wanted this" rather than "this was done to me."
- Analogous to the Ji-seeking project, where she takes control of the situation preemptively to give herself a feeling of agency, to avoid becoming "the victim", which is more psychologically damaging and impedes her happiness. So she takes preemptive measures to protect her happiness.
- The sex coordinator arc also demonstrates this. She's using her own resources and initiative to find new ways to demonstrate submission. When Yaling takes the coordinator away, it's a harsh reminder that even her attempts to surrender control more perfectly aren't truly under her control.
- Her joy in submission is completely genuine AND a sophisticated coping mechanism. By constantly finding new ways to choose submission - the tracking ward, the rules system, the career success she credits to MC - she maintains the fiction that she has agency in a situation where she fundamentally has none. The more completely she gives herself to MC, the more she can pretend it was all her choice.
- She found authentic love and fulfillment by surrendering herself so completely that even her thoughts about the surrender become a form of submission. She's living both a romantic fairy tale AND a sophisticated example of how power structures perpetuate themselves through willing participation.
